CASE FILE 001

GOVERNMENT SECRETS HEIST

Classification: TOP SECRET
Incident Type: Unauthorized Removal of Federal Intelligence
Suspects: Three unidentified panda operatives
Current Status: Investigation obstructed by excessive public sympathy

THE OPERATION

Evidence suggests the pandas entered through a service corridor during a scheduled security shift change. Their movements were deliberate, coordinated, and suspiciously efficient for animals routinely described as too clumsy to reproduce without human assistance.

The first operative opened a filing cabinet containing restricted intelligence reports. The second operative organized selected folders into a canvas transport bag. The third guarded the exit and consumed approximately six pounds of bamboo during the operation.

The bamboo may have been a snack.

At 2:26 a.m., all three suspects exited through the loading area carrying multiple containers marked CLASSIFIED. They disappeared beyond the facility’s eastern perimeter before responding agents arrived.

The entire operation lasted nine minutes.

This is considerably faster than the federal government’s average processing time for a change-of-address form.

EVIDENCE RECOVERED

Investigators recovered the following items near the compromised vault:

      • Several fresh bamboo splinters
      • A partially eaten bamboo shoot
      • One damaged security key
      • A roll of undeveloped microfilm
      • Multiple oversized paw prints
      • A black-and-white hair matching no employee currently assigned to the facility
      • A note containing seventeen vertical scratches, believed by some analysts to be a coded message and by others to be the work of a panda attempting to use a pencil

Document fragments recovered from the scene indicate that the suspects deliberately selected files involving satellite reconnaissance, foreign intelligence networks, and federal bamboo-import records.

The significance of the bamboo records remains unknown.

Their absence does not.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Government representatives deny that the incident constituted an organized intelligence operation. The official report describes the breach as an “unplanned wildlife interaction involving misplaced administrative paperwork.”

When asked how three pandas entered a locked federal facility, opened a secured vault, and removed only classified documents, officials declined to elaborate.

They did, however, remind the public that pandas are endangered.

This statement did not answer the question.

ASSESSMENT

The suspects remain unidentified and are considered highly adorable.

Citizens are advised not to approach them, photograph them, or disclose sensitive information in their presence. Any panda observed near a government building, communications facility, or unattended briefcase should be reported immediately.

Remember:

A panda may appear relaxed.

A panda may appear confused.

A panda may even fall backward while attempting to sit down.

None of these behaviors excludes the possibility of advanced intelligence training.
